Hello grade one families! Wow- it has been an incredible week of learning about National Truth and Reconciliation Day and Orange Shirt Day. Today we gathered as a school to honour Indigenous people, survivors of residential schools and all of those that it affected. Thank you to Ms. Sayer and the grade fours for hosting such a meaningful and impactful assembly. We will continue to learn and have these important conversations. The grade ones did an amazing job listening to many stories and videos this week and have been engaging in thoughtful, curious and compassionate conversations. We are so proud of you grade ones.  Today we finished our art inspired by George Littlechild, who loves to use bright, vibrant colours in his artwork. Hello grade one families! Today we continued learning about the significance of Orange Shirt Day and why Every Child Matters. Ask me what I learned about Orange Shirt Day and why we are invited to wear an orange shirt OR our favourite shirt, on Thursday September 29th. Here is a video we watched together as a class. We had a class discussion afterwards and shared our feelings about what we learned, asked  questions and talked about how children should feel when they come to school. We all agreed that children should feel happy and safe at school. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ty3ezkcgceQ  Orange Shirt Day-Residential School | Kujo's Kid Zone JOIN US! Thank you for joining us to talk about your children and all of the learning and fun we have been experiencing together! Today we gathered as a school for an assembly to begin learning about National Truth and Reconciliation Week and Orange Shirt Day. We learned about the importance of Land Acknowledgement. Mr. Magowan shared his personal connection to the land where he grew up and told stories about how meaningful wind is to him. This week we will continue to learn about Indigenous history and ways through stories, videos and art.  We also read a book called "The Sharing Circle" by Theresa Larsen-Jonasson. We are going to have our own sharing circle tomorrow! During literacy, we brainstormed, drew and wrote words that start with the letter "P", using inventive kid spelling. Ask me which words I chose to use in my visual journal! In math, we learned all sorts of ways to represen
