Hello grade one families,

It was so wonderful to meet so many of you during conferences. Thank you for joining us to talk about your children and all of the learning and fun we have been experiencing together!

Today we gathered as a school for an assembly to begin learning about National Truth and Reconciliation Week and Orange Shirt Day. We learned about the importance of Land Acknowledgement. Mr. Magowan shared his personal connection to the land where he grew up and told stories about how meaningful wind is to him. This week we will continue to learn about Indigenous history and ways through stories, videos and art.

We also read a book called "The Sharing Circle" by Theresa Larsen-Jonasson. We are going to have our own sharing circle tomorrow!

During literacy, we brainstormed, drew and wrote words that start with the letter "P", using inventive kid spelling. Ask me which words I chose to use in my visual journal!

In math, we learned all sorts of ways to represent a number, such as numerals, words, ten frames, tally marks and pictures.

We are looking forward to another great week of learning in our classrooms. We have the most hard working, kind and helpful grade ones!

Mrs. Woolnough and Mrs. Bradshaw
