Good afternoon grade one families! Today we were so fortunate to have the Dr. Martha Cohen School Jazz Band visit us. We were blown away by their talent and had so much fun singing along while they played their instruments. We continue to learn about celebrations and traditions within our two classes. So far we have shared traditions surrounding Eid and Ramadan, Hanukkah, Diwali, Christmas, Elf on the Shelf, family holidays, boat trips, annual visits to a favourite ice cream shop and camping! This afternoon we went on a 2D shape hunt around our school. Ask me what types of shapes I saw on our indoor adventure! Afterwards, we practiced our colouring and cutting skills and glued different 2D shapes into our math journals. On Thursday December 22nd students are invited to wear pajamas! We are still accepting mitten donations (new with tags) for our mitten trees. Stay warm and have a great evening! Love the grade one team

Good evening families, This morning we practiced replacing vowels in between consonants, to see how many words we could come up. Ask me what words I can create by adding a vowel between these letters: "h _ t"! Today we started exploring 2-Dimensional shapes. We did a shape hunt around our classroom and we built different 2D shapes with yarn and popsicles. Ask me what shapes I noticed and what shapes I built! We also continued to build teen numbers by building, and drawing, ten rods and ones. We also wrote the numerals and filled in ten frames. We are working hard getting ready for our concerts this week and cannot wait to share this gift with our families! 🎵 Please continue to send in artifacts and photos so that your child can share about a tradition or celebration with our classes. The students have been sharing incredible traditions/celebrations and memories with us. We are recording photos and artifacts by drawing little symbols so that we can always remember the traditi

Today we started a snow inquiry! We listened to a book called "The Story of Snow" by Mark Cassino and Jon Nelson. We shared what we already know about snow and we shared what we wonder about snow! We got to go outside at the end of the day and explore the snow. We are so excited to ask questions, make observations, create and experiment! Ask me what the magic number is for snowflakes! Ask me what I learned about snow today! Have a great evening! Love the grade one team

Good afternoon families! Today we worked on a sequencing activity after listening to the story "If You Take a Mouse to the Movies"! Ask me about the sequence of events in the story. We completed a colour transfer activity using oil pastels. Ask me how I transferred colour from one piece of paper to another! In math, we reviewed and talked about how teen numbers are made. Afterwards our grade ones had the opportunity to practice building numbers with base ten materials. Ask me what numbers I was able to build!                                                           Enjoy this lovely weather! Love the grade one team

Good afternoon families! We had a wonderful day of learning in grade one. We were thrilled to spend time with our grade 5 buddies this morning. They taught us a new skill! We learned how to draw using Zentangle patterns. We also created a beautiful watercolour background for a winter art project. Ask me which "cool" colour I chose to use. Below is a sneak peak of our art projects 😊 Today we used blocks to represent animal legs. We created different combinations of 2 legged and 4 legged animals. Ask me what different animals can make up 20 legs!  Stay warm and safe! Love the grade one team

Good evening grade one families! Today we did some writing about what we wear when it is cold outside! ⛄ Ask me what outdoor clothing items I chose to write about. Everyone did a great job using our word wall and our letter sound knowledge to spell new words. In social studies, we began to talk about our different celebrations and traditions. One friend brought in a beautiful homemade advent calendar and explained his family's traditions with the calendar. Another friend shared pictures of his Christmas tree and explained how every year he makes a star for the top of the tree. We look forward to continue sharing and learning about many different celebrations and traditions. If you would like to email us photos we can share them on the SmartBoard 😊 In math, we listened to Rooster's Off to See the World by Eric Carle. Afterwards, we used math cubes to represent the different types of animals that Rooster met on his travels. We counted our cubes by 2s and  we organized them using
