Good afternoon families!

We had a wonderful day of learning in grade one. We were thrilled to spend time with our grade 5 buddies this morning. They taught us a new skill! We learned how to draw using Zentangle patterns. We also created a beautiful watercolour background for a winter art project. Ask me which "cool" colour I chose to use.

Today we used blocks to represent animal legs. We created different combinations of 2 legged and 4 legged animals. Ask me what different animals can make up 20 legs!

Good afternoon families! Today we sent home some very exciting information about our up-coming Read-A-Thon. We are looking forward to celebrating our favourite books by participating in several school wide activities. With a new season just around the corner, let’s SPRING into  read ing!   Our 5th annual Copperfield  Read -A-Thon will take place from March 6th   - 17 th  and you can already begin to gather sponsors to collect pledges for books  read  by students. The amount that sponsors choose to donate is up to you! Throughout our  Read -A-Thon, students will have the opportunity to  participate in having guest  read ers join their classes virtually and in person. These guest  read ers may include a variety of  read ers such as CBE professionals, emergency service personnel, authors, artists, and athletes. Good afternoon grade one families! We had an amazing day of learning. This morning we watched a short film of the beloved story The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson. Afterwards we used loose parts to create scenes and characters and wrote sentences to describe our loose part art. The film was wonderful and our loose part creations were AWESOME! We are finished our Reader's Theatre and our puppets are proudly displayed in our windows. This year we made a fall tree at the Leighton Art Centre, a winter tree using cool coloured paint, a spring tree out of tissue paper and today we started our summer tree art using plasticine. They are inspired by Canadian Artist Barbara Reid. Love the grade one team

Good afternoon grade ones! In writing, we continue to focus on specific skills such as using finger spaces between words. We have been doing a great job and showing lots of progress.  In math, we continued exploring our math bags and power of ten cards.  Today we sent home information about "Spotlight Student"! We are very excited about this upcoming Social Studies project as we learn about our families, our history and our communities. Please reach out if you have any questions!
