Hello grade one families!

Wow- it has been an incredible week of learning about National Truth and Reconciliation Day and Orange Shirt Day. Today we gathered as a school to honour Indigenous people, survivors of residential schools and all of those that it affected. Thank you to Ms. Sayer and the grade fours for hosting such a meaningful and impactful assembly. We will continue to learn and have these important conversations. The grade ones did an amazing job listening to many stories and videos this week and have been engaging in thoughtful, curious and compassionate conversations. We are so proud of you grade ones.

Today we finished our art inspired by George Littlechild, who loves to use bright, vibrant colours in his artwork. We also continued talking about "Every Child Matters" and did some writing about why WE matter. Ask your child what they wrote! In math, we continue to challenge ourselves by building and extending complex patterns. We know that patterns repeat and that they have a core. Ask your child to find a pattern in your home or backyard and ask them to label it for you using letters. You will be impressed by their knowledge and it's so neat that we can find patterns everywhere!

Have a wonderful weekend! We are so excited to learn and have fun together next week!

Love Mrs. Woolnough and Mrs. Bradshaw
