Hi grade one families!

Yesterday we read Where the Wild Things are by Maurice Sendak. We loved it! Many friends were reading along because they knew the story so well.

Today we started designing our own wild thing! We sketched a plan, and started writing about our wild thing. We are excited to show off the final product at conferences!

In math, we have been "balancing" numbers. For example, we know that 5+5=10, 4+6=10 and that 2+3+5=10. We practiced balancing numbers and equations on our smartBoard scale and then used mini scales to balance different amounts of blocks in our classroom! We will continue exploring addition and subtraction using these fun learning tools.

In social studies, we are still learning all about our community. Today we read "The Important Thing" by Margaret Wise Brown. We wrote and drew something important about Copperfield!

We continue to discuss and honour which "zone" we are in at different times throughout our school day. Ask me what zone(s) I was in today and why. We are building our "toolboxes" and exploring different strategies and tools to support our emotions and learning. 💛🔵💚🔴

Have a wonderful night! Love the grade one team
