Good afternoon grade one families!

Welcome back and Happy New Year! We have had a wonderful first 2 days back to school with our grade ones.

In literacy, we have been looking at alliteration. We read the story "So Much Snow" by Kristen Schroeder and noticed several examples of alliteration like "silent swirling", "flakes floating" and "mountains melting".

We wrote about some of the fun things we did over winter break!

Today we also read a story called "The Snail and the Whale" by Julia Donaldson. We noticed and talked about the characters, the setting, the problem, the details, solving the problem, and how we connected to the story. We LOVED the book. Ask me what it was about!

In math, we have continued to explore 2D shapes in various sizes and orientations. We have also reviewed using base ten materials.

In science, we have been building snowmen using paper, scissors, pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks and tape. After reading "The Biggest Snowman Ever" by Steven Kroll we were challenged to build the tallest snowman! We will talk about what worked well and what didn't work well.

Have a wonderful night!
Love the grade one team
