Hello grade one families! WOW- we cannot believe that this is our last full week in grade one! 😭 We are so excited to finish off our year with tonnes of fun and learning. We were blown away by the grade one summer tree art inspired by Canadian artist and illustrator Barbara Reid. Today we worked on words that end in -ed. Some words that end in -ed have a "d" sound at the end and some words have a "t" sound. For example, loved (d) and splashed (t)! We did such a great job reading several words and identifying the ending sound. In math, we have been measuring the distance between 2 different objects using string! So much fun. Today we did the big bad wolf blow test on our houses... ask me what we used to test them! Our houses were SO STURDY that none of them blew down! We added roofs and other details to our houses and created 3 little pigs and a wolf with plasticine. They were amazing. Have a wonderful night! Love the grade one team 💚

Good afternoon grade one families! We had an amazing day of learning. This morning we watched a short film of the beloved story The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson. Afterwards we used loose parts to create scenes and characters and wrote sentences to describe our loose part art. The film was wonderful and our loose part creations were AWESOME! We are finished our Reader's Theatre and our puppets are proudly displayed in our windows. This year we made a fall tree at the Leighton Art Centre, a winter tree using cool coloured paint, a spring tree out of tissue paper and today we started our summer tree art using plasticine. They are inspired by Canadian Artist Barbara Reid. Love the grade one team

Hello grade one families! We had a great start to the week. We worked on subtraction equations. We are getting really good at using number lines to help us figure out the answers. In literacy, we continued to perform our Reader's Theatre play of the Three Little Pigs. We looked at more toys that our parents loved to play with when they were young. One friend brought in an authentic Cabbage Patch Doll from 1985!!! It had a change of clothes, an adoption certificate and a birthday card. So cool! We are working on a Father's Day surprise!!! Can't wait to send them home later this week. Have a wonderful night! Love the grade one team

Hello grade one families, Today we worked on our story writing. Our stories are coming along so nicely! We have been editing our stories on our own and with a classmate. Next we will edit them with a teacher! In math, we are still working on subtraction. Ask me about my favourite strategy that I use to help me solve subtraction equations. We can use our knowledge of doubles, doubles +/- 1, making ten, fact families, ten frames and pictures, using counters, using a number line and more! Today we built the cutest dolls and action figures! We used pipe cleaners, straws and beads to create these toys as part of our "Building Things" unit in science. They were a big hit and the grade ones were very excited to bring them home to show their families. We were talking about toys and wondering about the differences between toys built now, and toys built when our parents were kids! Mrs. Norrie's favourite toy was her Strawberry Shortcake doll and Mrs. Woolnough's favourite toy w

Hi grade one families! We had a wonderful day in grade one. This morning our friend Mrs. Rankin brought in incredible antique artifacts for us to explore. Ask me about some of the artifacts. We chose 4 items that spoke to our hearts and wrote I see... I think... I wonder... and sketched the items! It was so much fun to see such beautiful antique artifacts from the past and learn all about what their purpose was and who used them. In math, we did a button sorting activity! Ask me what we had to do with the buttons. We have been talking about how each of the Canadian provinces have an official flag, an official bird and an official flower. Ask me what I remember about Alberta! Reminder: No school on Friday June 9th for students. Have a wonderful night  Love the grade one team

Good afternoon families, We have been learning about animal adaptations. Ask me why a monkey, a scorpion and a shark have tails! (Hint: it is for 3 different reasons!) Today we learned about animals and sea creatures with prickly spikes and why they are necessary. We love learning interesting facts about animals in grade one! We continued talking about Québec City's Winter Carnival and drew pictures and labelled all of the awesome winter activities that seemed fun to us. Ask me who Bonhomme is! Thank you for continuing to support our grade ones with their home reading! Please keep reading and bringing in your tickets for a chance to win prizes:) Have a wonderful weekend!
